Horizon Treadmill reviewed.
The Horizon Treadmill is an import brand made
by Johnson who also manufactures Vision, Cateye, and Matrix
brand treadmills. All of the Horizon model treadmills are
produced in China.
Horizon offers a number of
different models
ranging in price from $600, which is the
Horizon T605, to $2,000 which is the Horizon Elite 5.1T. As
with anything that has a bottom of the barrel price, quality
will suffer so be wary of the lower priced Horizon models unless
you're just looking for a "starter" or "throwaway" treadmill.
Horizon claims a maintenance-free drive train on all of their
models, and uses orthopedic
belts on many models. Be prepared to buy a few parts if you
get a model that uses an
orthopedic belt because of durability issues.
The motor warranty ranges in length from 7 years to 25 years,
so the motor warranty has a strong coverage period, but it's
still recommended that you purchase an extended warranty to
cover the rest of the treadmill components due to the lower quality
of some of the parts which are used. You can find an excellent
extended warranty being offered by Universal Technical
Services, and they can be reached at 1-800-677-3838. The
extended warranty needs to be purchased within 90 days after
your treadmill purchase.
Horizon treadmills compare well with other lower and average
priced treadmills, although our recommendation would be to go
with a
Proform treadmill for similar pricing (better pricing on
some pro form models) with slightly better overall quality
combined with the backing of one of the major players in the
fitness industry, ICON health and fitness.
The Horizon treadmill
brand
rates a 7/10. Yes...the Horizon fitness treadmill is a good value price-wise,
but because of the lower pricing, some features like the
walking area, power, cushioning, reliability, and noise level
are sacrificed. If you're looking for a
treadmill with more umph (and therefore a bigger price),
additional bells and whistles, and is a great value at the
